Sony and Honda agreed to form a new company to design and sell electric vehicles together. Although the new venture isn’t officially formed, is expected to be launched by the end of this year and the first EV model is planned to hit the market in 2025.

According to The Verge, Honda will manufacture the first model, with the new company handing the vehicle’s design, development, and sales. At the same time Sony will be in charge of developing a mobility service platform.

The partnership is intended to combine Honda’s expertise in making and marketing cars with Sony’s capabilities in image sensors, telecommunications, and entertainment.

This isn’t Sony’s first encounter with the automotive industry. The company presented at CES, in Las Vegas, in 2020 and again this year its own version for an electric car, the Vision-S concept. The company was even planning to have a separate division in charge of producing eleectric vehicles, but it seems that the new parnership with Honda is more lucrative and beneficial for both companies involved.
