Meet Bcomp, a Swiss startup specialized in developing sustainable and lightweight fibers composites, which according to Tech.eu, raised 40 million USD in a Series C round. The company's bio-based composites have been adapted throughout the years to be usable in the automotive industry, delivering better performance and sustainability, compared to materials such as glass or carbon fiber. Additionally, weight reduction can amount to 50%, while plastic contents on the inside of a vehicle can be cut by 70%.

The company's materials for specialized industries help with mitigating vibrations and improving safety, as well, since they don't shatter on impact. This, coupled with a CO2 footprint reduction in the end product, is what determined automotive investors, such as BMW i Ventures and Porsche Ventures, to finance their development.

Claas Carsten Kohl, Partner at Airbus Ventures, said that the company's "innovative natural fiber composites are designed to help OEMs decarbonize their supply chains by providing powerful, pragmatic, and economical lightweighting solutions to boost performance."

The 40 million USD round will help Bcomp scale up production capacity, as well as reaching new markets in Asia and North America.
