Electrive writes that, according to Daimler Truck officials, "product and process development for battery electric commercial vehicles is carried out on an area of over 10,000 square meters." The new Battery Technology Center (BTC) has two different areas, one which will produce pilot battery cells that correspond to requirements for heavy transport vehicles and another where test batteries will be produced and verified, both on and off trucks.

This way, the German company prepares for the series production, which is expected to start at the same site in the second half of this decade (2025).

"Over 60 new machines and systems are being installed in the BTC, where the relevant processes for the prototypical production of battery cells and systems can be mapped: Coating technologies, welding processes, assembly and adhesive processes", Daimler officials explained.

Daimler Truck will also experiment with different battery chemistries, while optimizing cooling and battery management to continue to improve future iterations of these batteries.

Andreas Gorbach, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck and responsible for Truck Technology, said that "we have decided to take care of the assembly of the future battery generation ourselves and thus keep important added value in-house."
