CNBC reports that Tevva managed to raise some 140 million USD and the vehicle has a range that can go up to 500 kilometers.

Tevva says that the hydrogen tank can be filled back in just 10 minutes, while juicing the battery from nothing might take five or six hours.

The first version of the truck is expected to weight around 7.5 tons, while later versions can go up to 12 and 19 tons respectively.

Tevva officials explained why they went with a hydrogen-battery power train, saying that "the fuel cell system tops up the battery, extending the vehicle’s range and allowing the truck to carry heavier loads over longer distances."

The company also developed a battery-powered truck with a range of around 250 kilometers, and Tevva CEO Asher Bennett explained why the company is focused on the heavy-duty goods transport.

"We’re very focused on the heavy goods trucks and we’re slowly going heavier and heavier because those are the segments that are much harder to electrify", he said.

Volvo Truck announced back in June that it will start testing hydrogen-powered trucks in order to allow long-haul transportation to get greener while also achieving ranges of as much as 1.000 km.

The Swedish truck maker said that refueling the trucks should happen in 15 minutes and commercialization of the new vehicles is expected "in the latter part of this decade."

Tevva's electric motors are developed with the help of Advanced Electric Machines and are manufactured without the use of rare-earth metals.

The company presented the advantages of going with such a design, some of which being cost reduction and better efficiency, which in turn should give better battery life.
