As per Notebookcheck, the solid-state battery developed by the Korean brand is destined for usage in the automotive industry and is capable of offering a range of up to 965 kilometers on a charge. Since it's an innovative and expensive technology, it will be first implemented on luxury vehicles sometime after 2027, the date both Samsung and Toyota promised to start mass-manufacturing the new cells.

Toyota also said that solid-state batteries, offering better performance and charging times, will be first available in its Lexus models.

It's not just premium batteries that Samsung is focused on, however, as the company aims to manufacture lower-cost LFP (lithium-iron phosphate) and cobalt-free cells as more sustainable alternatives to lithium-ion batteries available today.

NIO and CATL are two EV manufacturers that recently promoted 15-year battery warranties to support the used EV market, as well as to offer drivers more confidence that their cars will run optimally for many kilometers and years to come.
