According to Electrive, the 76-seat Bombardier Q400 plane will be retrofitted with a hydrogen propulsion system and was originally an aircraft designed for regional flights in 1998.

Alaska Airlines, who invested in ZeroAvia back in 2021, will be operating the hydrogen-powered plane, although a date for the first commercial flight has not yet been presented.

The modular hydrogen-powered system co-developed by ZeroAvia and Alaska Airlines, was presented in April and is suitable for aircraft with a capacity of 40 to 80 seats and it will use liquid hydrogen as the fuel. However, its development is far from done, as 2027 is the year when it could be completed, which means that the "Dash 8" plane will take-off sometime after that.
