As per Forbes, the hydrogen production and power station businesses from Nikola will operate under the name of HYLA.

Carey Mendes, president of the company’s energy unit, said that "the strategic mission of HYLA at Nikola is to secure supplies of clean hydrogen and then to distribute it to our customers at very competitive prices."

The official also mentioned that "it will, of course, support not only our vehicles … but it's also going to support every other manufacturer of hydrogen-powered vehicles who are going to need this in the future."

Nikola began selling the battery-powered variant of its Tre semi-trucks back in early 2022, but company representatives said that those were mostly intended for short cargo trips, whereas longer transport sessions were to be done with hydrogen models.

The truck specialist will begin testing the battery-powered Tre in the Port of Hamburg this year, when the charging infrastructure will be ready.

While Nikola didn't disclose hydrogen prices for when the fuel will be ready, officials said that it will be cheaper compared to alternatives being offered in California, which is the only US state that has retail hydrogen stations available for the public.
