According to Electrive, the next generation of the eCanter will also be available in Japan and the company will present the electric truck in Europe at the end of September.

For better use of space, the new eCanter will incorporate the electric motor into the rear axile, where the drive system is located.

The wheelbase of the new truck will vary from 2.55 meters to a maximum of 4.75 and up to three battery variants are available, depending on the size of the truck.

Vehicles with the smallest wheelbase will incorporate a smaller 41.3 kWh battery, which is good for 80 km of range, while medium and large-size models will have two and three battery packs, respectively.

The upgraded packs will be bringing up to 140 and 200 kilometers of range, according to the Japanese company, which only mentions "normal" and "fast" charging as possible options.

The current eCanter is a 7.5 tons light truck which offers about 100 kilometers of range and is powered by six lithium-ion batteries that total to 82.8 kWh.

The truck is powered by a 129kW electric motor and it can carry as much as 4.5 tons of cargo at a speed limit of 80 km/h.
