According to ESG Today, DHL has committed to a 10-year deal with BioEnergy to source biomethane for its trucks, which are said to be powered by the fuel as soon as it is available. BioEnergy's new facility could produce biomethane for as many as 150 trucks, which will reduce the annual emissions output by 15.000 tons of CO2.

Biomethane or renewable natural gas (RNG) is made from organic waste, such as agricultural or industrial waste and as far as the chemistry goes, it is identical to fossil-based natural gas, helping us decarbonize hard to abate sectors, such as transport and heavy industries.

2009-founded Stream BioEnergy operates and develops new biogas projects in Ireland, such as the Cork plant, which will be able to process as much as 90.000 tons of industry and consumer food waste per year.

DHL said that biomethane-powered trucks will help the company reach its 2050 climate goals, as well as the use of alternative aviation fuels, climate-neutral buildings and zero-emissions fleets of road transport.
