As per ESG Today, the commitment will support Whirlpool's 2030 net-zero goals, which were announced back in 2021. Among the pledges, the American appliance maker said it plans to achieve carbon neutrality among 30 of its manufacturing sites worldwide on Scope 1 and energy-related Scope 2 emissions.

Whirlpool currently has four wind power installations at four manufacturing plants in Ohio, each supplying about 22% of the required power at the respective facilities. The upcoming solar and wind sites could be operational from early 2025 and with the added power output, the factories in Clyde and Findlay could get up to 70% of their required power from clean, renewable sources.

Pam Klyn, Executive Vice President of Corporate Relations and Sustainability for Whirlpool said that "our focus on sustainability goes back over 50 years, and these new onsite installations are a significant step toward achieving our net zero target by 2030 for our operations."
