The Recursive explains in detail what the practices of sustainable leadership are and how does a leader's role integrate with the rest of the company.

Rumiana Parusheva, Sustainability manager at Siemens Bulgaria, explained that "my role is to objectively evaluate, predict, mitigate risks and drive positive impact on how corporate actions affect the triple bottom line, People, Planet, and Profits, adapting the global strategy to local conditions and specifics."

In order to achieve their objectives and to fulfil their role in a company, sustainability leaders need to combine a multitude of complex tasks and functions.

In a way, a sustainability manager should be some kind of a mediator between the company's business interests and the sustainable development requirements.

In a dynamic and competitive sector, such as the technology one, it is important for the sustainability manager to help the company not neglect the interest of the stakeholders (employees, customers, communities etc.) in favor of the company's own interests or vice versa.

The sustainability manager must also develop the ability to inspire other people to integrate sustainability in their daily tasks.

And last, but not least, sustainability professionals must be a reliable source of sustainability information, advice and guidelines for the entire corporation.

Last year, Siemens released the company's concept for sustainability, called DEGREE, which highlights the company's areas of action and initiatives.

Ioannis Sideris from Thrace Group said that, for him, "the goals of a CSO must be directly related to the goals of its organization. In our group, we have an Environmental Policy, with a special focus on recycling, responsible waste management, reducing energy consumption, and the continuous reduction of greenhouse gas emissions."

He also explained that "the goal of the Sustainable Strategy of the Plastics Thrace Group is to create value for society and the environment. Our priority is to provide sustainable products in the context of the circular economy and to plan actions that will contribute to the further reduction of our environmental footprint."

Sideris also stated that Thrace Group sets targets and objectives based on two main factors, which are climate change and circular economy.

To him, it is important that all members of a certain company and even its collaborators to understand what sustainability means and why it is important, this includes executives, employees, suppliers and customers.

These are among the qualities that all sustainability leaders should have in order to enable their companies to achieve success, while also take care of the environment and the climate goals.
