During the latest general meeting, the company's representatives said that they will remain true to hybrid models.

”Our goal is carbon neutrality”, said Toyota's Chief Technology Officer Masahiko Maeda, arguing that the customers have the right to choose the cars they prefer.

According to Reuters, Toyota officials argued that hybrids make a lot more sense in markets where the infrastructure is not ready to support full-electric cars. The company is also exploring the viability of green fuels for internal combustion engine cars, including hydrogen.

Last year, Toyota committed to spend 60 billion dollars by 2030 to electrify its cars, half of the sum going towards the development of fully electric vehicles.
