According to Electrive, batteries that have reached their end-of-life operation will be properly recycled and the raw materials will be reused.

Ailin Huang, Head of Sustainability at Tier Mobility, said that "proper recycling of lithium-ion batteries is crucial to reduce the environmental impact of our services, while making an important contribution to securing the future availability of raw materials."

Lukas Wiedenmann, Key Account Manager at Remondis, added that "the CO2 savings and substitution of primary resources greatly protect the environment and climate and alleviate the industry’s procurement pressure."

The two companies have been working on recycling batteries ever since 2021, but they want to expand their partnership due to expanding micro-mobility services in countries like Spain, Israel and Croatia.

Cobalt, nickel and manganese are among the materials that Tier Mobility and Remondis want to recover from batteries that can no longer be used.

"Recycling is part of the United Nations’ 12th Sustainable Development Goal: Sustainable Consumption and Production. Recycling our products is therefore a natural part of our efforts to drive real sustainability in the micromobility industry", Ailin Huang added.
