Euronews.green reports that the law was intended to reduce e-waste and to prolong the lifespan of electronics and some 560.000 tickets worth 200 euros each have been redeemed. The tickets could be used for defective laptops, smartphones and coffee makers, among other types of electronics people have around the household.
The authorities initially expected around 400.000 people to take advantage of the program by 2026, but the results greatly exceeded their expectations. To benefit from repairs, customers had to bring in their devices in one of the 3.500 locations.
EU officials also believe that, by launching an online service to help consumers find local repair shops, this will encourage repair companies to keep costs down for competitiveness.
Any thoughts?
