According to Electrive, Mercedes-Benz officials say that this move is to happen by mid to late 2024.

The decision came after the company's CEO Ola Källenius took an electric G-Class for a test ride back in 2021, to which he said it was "probably the most fun" experience for him in the whole year.

"From now on, off-road driving will be electric", he added, without detailing any specification of the future EV.

The German carmaker presented recently a concept model named the EQG, which resembles pretty much the electric version of the G-Class.

The concept model had four electric motors, each mounted close to the wheels, which is possibly one of the ways Mercedes engineers will decide to build the future electric G-Class.

Also, each electric motor has its own gearbox, which is supposed to help with the car's off-road capabilities.

No details have been presented regarding the battery size or possible charging speeds, either, although California battery-specialist Sila Nanotechnologies could be providing at least some of the battery cells for the new vehicle.
