Electrive writes that the selected projects cover five areas of hydrogen solutions, including the development of the infrastructure required for refilling heavy-duty hydrogen-powered EVs, as well as simplifying permitting and improving the safety.

DOE officials stated that these projects will support the development of the country's clean hydrogen hubs, as well as that of industrial-scale hydrogen installations. Earlier in 2024, US government officials announced fundings for 52 other hydrogen projects for its efforts to create a zero-emissions cargo transport system.

Experts also underlined the importance of long-term storage for clean hydrogen as a solution to expand on the use of renewable energy, while in August of this year, the US government also announced 500 million USD for investments in the hydrogen refill infrastructure, as well as for the EV charging station network.

Regarding the recently financed hydrogen projects, standardizing the refill stations received most of the cash, 40 million USD to be exact, and the four projects selected for development in this field will develop and demonstrate affordable, scalable and standardized hydrogen refill stations.
