Electrive writes that photovoltaic panels installed on the roofs of the available metro stations will also provide the stations with the required power and the location of the first station is in Rambla de Marina in L’Hospitalet. The first charging station has two 50kW points with three connectors, which can be used at the same time.

Depending on which connectors are being used, EVs can charge for 30 minutes, an hour or an hour and a half, while the cost of charging is 30 cents per kilowatt-hour. Carlos Cordón, Vice President of Mobility, Transport and Sustainability of the AMB (Area Metropolitana de Barcelona), said that "the fact that the electric lines can operate with the metro’s surplus energy represents an important step forward for more sustainable and clean mobility in the Barcelona metropolis."

Six additional MetroCHARGE stations will be installed around the city, two of which will be located in the same L’Hospitalet de Llobregat area.
