According to Tech Crunch, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, tweeted on Saturday that "this was an exceptionally difficult quarter due to supply chain interruptions and China zero Covid policy. Outstanding work by Tesla team and key suppliers saved the day."

Tesla reported that it was able to sell over 310.000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2022, 305.407 of these vehicles being produced since the beginning of the year.

Most of the vehicles sold by the American car manufacturer were Model Ys and 3s, 295.324 to be exact. Then followed the Model S and Model X vehicles, with 14.724 of these two models being delivered in the first quarter of this year.

Although the amount of vehicles produced and delivered exceeded the expectations of some analysts, the numbers went down a bit compared to the last quarter, when the company was able to manufacture 305.840 cars.

The impact in production came mostly from factory shutdowns in China and supply chain issues.

Because of the Covid-related restrictions, the production of Tesla cars at the Shanghai Gigafactory was halted twice in March.

The Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai produces about 2.000 cars per day, mostly Model Ys and 3s for the Chinese and European markets.

In the first quarter of 2021, Tesla was able to produce over 180.000 vehicles and sold almost 185.000.

The American company should be able to increase its production, thanks to the opening of the Berlin Gigafactory.

Tesla also said on Saturday that it will report the earnings for the first quarter on April, 20th, after the stock market closes.
