According to Electrive, Condor Ferries will use the ship first to transport people between Belfast and Bangor in Northern Ireland.

The vessel will be 24 meters long and will be able to house up to 150 passengers up to around 213 kilometers if travelling at 46 km/h.

While the manufacturer didn't disclose any information regarding the electric motor, battery capacity or charging, it says that the top speed limit will be 70 km/h.

Company founder Dr. Iain Percy Obe stated that "we have combined our experience from the worlds of high-performance sailing, motorsports, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing to design and develop an electric propulsion system that is quite simply a game changer for the maritime industry."

"With hydrofoils that lift the boats out of the water, we are dramatically reducing drag", he added.

A similarly-working passenger ship made by Candela is to transport people around Stockholm from 2023.

Swedish carmaker Polestar is also working with Candela to develop electric vessels for a more sustainable way to transport by water.
