Electrive writes that Texas-based Group1 is a company founded in 2021 that offers a proprietary technology, named KIB, which is a sustainable and affordable solution that doesn't make use of critical minerals, such as nickel, cobalt or lithium. The company's solution can be easily integrated in current-generation battery manufacturing processes.

Alexander Girau, CEO of Group1, said that "this innovation represents years of dedicated research and product development. By distributing samples to our partners among Tier 1 OEMs and cell manufacturers, we are paving the way for widespread adoption of this transformative technology."

18650 batteries are among the most widespread and most used in the world. Introduced first in 1994, these cylindrical cells are found in laptops, LED flashlights and EVs, among other products.

Group1 experts claim that their technology achieves better lifecycle per cell, as well as excellent discharge capabilities. Additionally, the first product exceeds initial expectations, achieving an energy density of 160-180Wh/kg.
