According to Electrive, the 2023 version of the E-Class will be Mercedes' last model with an internal combustion engine.

Mercedes-Benz CTO Markus Schäfer said that "as things stand today, the E-Class with its derivatives is the last Mercedes-Benz model to be created on a pure combustion engine platform."

Company officials announced back in 2021 that it will only release electric platforms from 2025 for all types of needs.

This includes regular customers who are looking for a family car, enthusiasts that want the best performance that the AMG team can output and also commercial customers looking into the next light commercial vehicles powered by batteries.

Also, with the implementation of the Euro 7 standard, Mercedes-Benz will end the partnership with Renault, as it plans to reduce the number of fossil powered cars in the line-up.

The German manufacturer also announced a first entry level luxury electric sedan that will replace the C-Class, which might come out in 2024.

Technology-wise, the new EV, which could be called the EQC, will reportedly be different that the EQE and the EQS.
