According to Clean Tehnica, the bad news is that Mercedes sold 490.000 cars in Q2 of 2022, which might not seem too bad, but it is 16% lower compared to the same time last year.

Company officials stated that this isn't a demand issue, but rather one caused by the supply chain issues, a problem affecting the whole industry.

Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales, said that "customer demand remains high. This is an honor and obligation for us. We are making every effort to fulfill customer expectations, despite the current supply restrictions."

They did point, however, to the increase in EV sales, which saw pretty important gains compared to last year's Q2.

“Sales of our fully electric vehicles increased by more than 90% in Q2 and even 134% in the first half of 2022. It shows that we offer compelling electric vehicles that our customers desire.” Seeger added.

This is mostly due to the fact that the company increased the number of factories manufacturing EVs and expanded its EV offer, so customers have more choices when it comes to their next electric car.

This aligns with the German carmaker's strategy to focus more on hybrids and EVs in the future in order to complete the energy transition.

Part of Mercedes' strategy is the fact that the company's production lines don't need to be rethought for new electric models, instead EVs are being built on very similar platforms as consumer interest shifts, which makes production faster and more efficient.
