According to Electrive, the battery factory will aim to produce more than 100.000 batteries every year.

At first, MAN staff will have to manually produce the batteries for two and a half years, as the construction of the large-scale facility will begin in mid-2023 and will be completed by the end of 2024.

Company officials call the move "future-oriented" and stated that batteries will leave the assembly line in 2025.

The German manufacturer experienced with batteries in buses back in 2019, and future trucks might need as many as six of the battery packs found within the pilot vehicles in order to achieve ranges of 600 to 800 kilometers.

Also, MAN expects that, through new battery technology, which should be available from 2026, trucks can reach ranges greater than 1.100 km.

Bavaria officials also promised a 30 million euro investment between 2023 and 2027, which should enable further research and advancements with regards to battery tech.

Markus Wansch, chairman of the Works Council, stated that "it was good news that together we have succeeded in establishing battery series production in Nuremberg. The location’s future would rest on the pillar of electromobility."
