According to Electrive, the fuel cells will be provided by Hyundai subsidiary HTWO, as Iveco already participates in bidding to implement hydrogen fuel cells on its future buses.

The Italian manufacturer announced in June that it wants to resume bus production at the facility in Foggia, where it plans to make battery and fuel cell-powered buses sometime in the future.

Hyundai and Iveco announced back in March that they will collaborate to create new vehicle technologies, including electric powertrains, platforms and fuel cell systems.

Domenico Nucera, president of the Iveco Group Bus Business Unit, said that "by collaborating with an industry leader like HTWO, we at IVECO BUS can respond rapidly to customer requests for zero-emission vehicles powered by cutting-edge propulsion technology."

"We have already started submitting public tenders for hydrogen-powered buses and will continue in the coming months; as we go on playing our leading role in the energy transition of Europe’s mass passenger transport segment", the official added.

Toyota is another manufacturer that wants to develop hydrogen-powered buses for the European market in a joint effort with CaetanoBus and Air Liquide.

The Japanese maker is currently testing hydrogen fuel cells on its Sora bus platform.
