As per Tech.eu, Swiss company Metafuels focuses on making sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) using green, renewable power (eSAF). The advantage of SAF is that it can currently be implemented in existing aircraft without any modifications required to the engines. SAF is currently our best bet to reduce emissions in the aviation sector, at least until more advanced and viable solutions pop-up on the market.

Metafuels' approach is also more cost-effective compared to other companies in the industry, which is a great advantage, as price of adoption is one of SAF's toughest challenges, besides not enough capacity being developed.

Saurabh Kapoor, CEO and co-founder of Metafuels, shared that "Metafuels takes green methanol produced from renewable electricity and sustainable sources of carbon and—through a two-step process—turns it into jet fuel. We don't want people to fly less, we want them to be able to do so more—to experience other cultures, and to play a role in a globalized economy—without there being a negative climate impact."

Metafuels officials believe that the company's solution will be a 100% synthetic jet fuel substitute by 2030, meaning that blends with kerosene might not be required anymore.
