It's not the first-time energy efficiency has been promoted at a key driver of energy independence. Even we wrote a few times about how important energy efficiency really is and why we need to find ways to work with less power.

Technology plays a major role here and it is in fact the only way we could achieve a lower level of power consumption that still allows us to do whatever we need to progress.

Reuters reports that, as per Larissa Gross of E3G climate think tank, "we don't just need to change the way we generate electricity, we need to change the ways we use it."

Experts at the International Energy Agency (IEA) also stated that energy efficiency is the "first fuel" in the energy transition and the most at-hand measure that we can use to cut energy-related CO2 emissions.

EU authorities are talking a lot about improving energy efficiency as many countries try to make the most out of whatever energy source they have. This means that even public buildings, such as hospitals, have to lower their power consumption.

Users at home are no exception either and officials always recommend switching to LED lights and lower the ambient temperature in the house to save significant amounts of power.

LED lights are not only 75% more energy efficient, but they also last about 25 times longer than traditional light bulbs, while emitting the same amount of light, if not potentially more.

When it comes to helping buildings better retain thermal power, better insulation is the way to go and this also helps a lot when it comes to how often and how much we need to spend on heating and cooling.

Sofie Irgens, head of the climate solutions accelerator at Danish multinational Danfoss, said that "we need to make energy efficiency as sexy as wind turbines."

IEA experts suggest that a doubling in energy efficiency worldwide would mean that we could already provide half of the necessary emissions-reduction by 2030.

Industries around the world would be able to achieve 437 billion USD in savings every year by 2030 if they invest in energy efficiency improvements, while this would also mean they will improve their environmental performance.
