Euronews.green writes that rapid installation of new solar and wind plants helped boost the green energy production. At the same time, fossil power production dropped by 19.7%, contributing only with 32.5% to Europe's total energy generation.

Still, 2023 was a record year for solar power across the continent and thanks to that, solar-generated electricity is at the lowest in terms of price in most European countries. In 2023, solar panels generated about 18.9% more energy compared to the previous year and between 2018 and 2023, photovoltaics productivity increased by over 126%.

Regarding wind power, offshore installations, especially those conducted by the Netherlands, contributed to a great output increase in 2023 of 13.4%. This allowed wind turbines to have more of an influence in Europe's power system than natural gas.

Despite the continuous droughts that hit many countries on the continent last year, hydro power plants also generated more energy compared to 2022 and combined, these zero-emissions power sources meant that Europe is getting closer to a net-zero grid.
