Diesels, one of European drivers' favorite class of vehicles was recently surpassed in terms of registrations by battery-powered models, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association. Electrive quotes the organization that BEV registrations grew by 66.2% this year in June to a total of 158.252 units, compared to the same month last year.
Thus, the share of BEVs on the EU market also grew to 15.1%, from 10.7% last year, while the market share for diesel cars fell from 17.4 to 13.4% compared to June 2022. The market share of Plug-in hybrids also declined slightly, from 8.2% last year to 7.9 this time around.
Experts at ACEA say that in the first half of this year, over 703.000 battery-powered cars were registered in the EU, 53.8% more compared to the same time frame in 2022. Preliminary data from Dataforce shows that one car reigned supreme among all of them, regardless of the type of fuel they use, and that is the Tesla Model Y, this being the best-seller in the EU in the first half of 2023.
The Model Y was 7.000 units ahead of the second place, the Dacia Sandero, while Volkswagen's T-Roc was in third place, with 11.000 less vehicles sold compared to Dacia's model. Tesla's Model 3, another successful effort from the company, ranked only 50 in the ranking for the first half of 2023 in terms of cars sold in the EU.
Any thoughts?
