According to Charged EVs, the company might have found a way to reduce battery aging, which means that the chemistry found within lithium-ion batteries should be more resilient to degradation.
Iontra Chief Science Officer Daniel Konopka stated that "we have found a fundamental way to materially reduce degradation in lithium batteries when charging or discharging."
"This opens the door for dramatically better performance from existing battery cells representing a range of chemistries, materials, designs, and manufacturing processes", he added.
He also mentioned that Iontra's technologies should help with regards to charging during cold weather, while also improving on capacity utilization.
Jeff Granato, the CEO of the company, stated that "after nearly 10 years of hard work from our team of scientists, engineers, and technicians; two million hours of battery cycling; and multiple 3rd-party validation reports, Iontra’s technology is ready for use in commercial battery design, deployment and operation."
Iontra officials say that the technology should be ready for implementation by 2024 and the company has already partnered with automakers.
