According to The Travel, many cities worldwide want to become greener and healthier for their residents by encouraging the use of public transport and alternative transportation solutions, such as bikes or scooters.

Barcelona, for example, is one of the cities that wants to implement a system that will change the lifestyle of its residents with regards to transportation to improve the general wellbeing and there are even futuristic cities, like Telosa in the Amercan desert, that propose a completely different approach to what a city looks like.

But what exactly is a 15-minute city? According to AIA Seattle, it is "an approach to urban design and planning that aims to improve quality of life by creating cities where everything a resident needs can be reached within 15 minutes by foot, bike or public transit."

So this means that people should rely less on the personal vehicles and more on alternative commute systems in order to improve the quality of air and noise levels, for example.

Cities which will implement this system will allow their citizens to reach things like medical facilities and grocery stores within 15 minutes of their house, while using alternative transportation methods.

A 15-minute city is characterized by four things, which are proximity, diversity, density and ubiquity.

The man that stands behind this project is Carlos Moreno, Professor at the University of Paris and other cities in the world like Melbourne, Paris, London and Milan are also planning to adopt this idea.
