ESG Today reports that the 120 million USD fund provided by the two companies will be aimed at farmers who want to improve the quality of their soil, but also the water they use for farming practices.

By practicing regenerative agriculture, scientists believe that we can mitigate the effects of damaging farmland and that we can restore the ecosystems and prevent the pollution of our waterways.

Experts at both Walmart and PepsiCo believe that by regenerating over 400.000 hectares of land, they will be able to reduce and remove as much as 4 million tons of carbon emissions by the next decade.

Also, by improving farming practices, farmers will benefit, as well, by having more healthy and productive yields, while also protecting their land and water resources. In the long run, this will have important benefits for the local and regional food systems, as well.

Steven Williams, Chief Executive Officer, PepsiCo Foods North America, said that "this effort is a new model for PepsiCo, marking our first, large-scale strategic collaboration focused on sustainable agriculture with a retail partner. Farmers are critical to our business, and many of the brands our consumers know and love rely on ingredients that we source straight from the farm."
