As per Euronews.green, global solar power capacity in 2023 could be enough to power 57% of EU's total requirements, as rooftop panels installations grew by 49% in 2022.

Experts at SolarPower Europe say that the rooftop panels increase accounts for 118 gigawatts worth-of power installation across the entire planet, which would be enough to power an additional 36 million homes.

As a whole, solar power systems worldwide grew by 45% last year, enough to produce a total of 1.2 TW of electricity and this year, experts estimate that the renewable source could generate as much as 1.612 TW of energy or 57% of EU's demand.

Back on the continent, 12 European countries are among the world leaders in solar power installations, some of which being Germany, Spain and Italy.

Poland is another pleasant surprise and researchers say that rooftop installations set-up by prosumers are responsible for the country's increase.

We made our own analysis showcasing why you might want to become a prosumer yourself, as this can lower your overall energy bill and even net you some profit on the long-run.

China, the US and India are the world countries that added the most solar power last year, with Spain, Germany and Poland being the first three European nations on the ranking. Greece and Hungary are also European states that made it into the list of 26 global solar powers ranked by number of solar systems added in 2022.

Michael Schmela, director of Market Intelligence at SolarPower Europe, said that "we’re installing huge amounts of solar, and we need to be able to use it, when we need it. Governments around the world must make upgrading their electricity and storage infrastructure a political priority."
