About 250.000 plugin vehicles were registered in March in Europe in March, which is the second-best month ever regarding this market.

According to CleanTehnica, there were 565.000 vehicles of this kind registered over the first quarter of the year, up 24% YoY.

Currently, in Europe, there are 15 countries where 15% or more new-car buyers purchased plugin electric vehicles, whether we are talking about full electric cars or plug-in hybrids.

At the same time, there are 12 European countries that have 10% or more of the new-car buyers acquiring full electric cars.

The leader in the charts is Norway, where EVs hit 13% of the total car purchases.

Data shows that some European countries went from a 2% market share of EVs to over 10% in this segment during two years, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland being among the countries with the most EV adopters.

Regarding PHEVs, which refers to plugin hybrids, data shows that the same countries top the charts with regards to adoption of those vehicles.

As of March 2022, among the best-selling EVs in Europe we can find the Tesla Model 3, the Tesla Model Y, both dominating the market, with 23.198 vehicles sold and 19.500 respectively, followed by the third place, occupied by the Fiat 500e, with just shy over 6.500 cars sold.

As far as plugin vehicle sales in Europe between January and March goes, again we have the two models from Tesla, the Model 3 and Model Y, with 32.901 and 26.637 cars sold respectively, alongside the small Fiat 500e, which saw 13.931 cars delivered.

Still, regarding the carmakers that sold the most plugins in March 2022, we have the first three places taking by Tesla, still, with 10.5% market share, followed by BMW, with 9.1% and then in third place we have Mercedes-Benz, with 8.9% market share in this segment.

On a country level, Belgium and Netherlands have the Belgian-made Volvo XC40 PHEV as the top selling plugin car, while in Finland and Poland, the preferred PHEV car is again a Volvo, but this time it's the XC60 PHEV.

Portugal clients like the BMW 3 Series PHEV the most, while in Denmark the PHEV of choice for most drivers is the Ford Kuga PHEV.

Regarding pure electric cars, the best sellers are the Tesla Model 3, with customers preferring this vehicle in countries such as Germany, France and Spain, and the Tesla Model Y being more of a fan favorite in places like UK, Norway and Denmark.

For Italy, the most purchased EV is none other than the Fiat 500e, while Romanians have shown quite a bit of interest to the Dacia Spring, the most sold BEV (100% electric car) in the country.
