As per ESG Today, company officials also announced that the tech giant also joined the RE100 initiative, which implies that all members have to use 100% renewable energy for all of their global operations.
Since LG vowed to source all of its energy requirements from renewables by 2050 back in 2021, the company now updated its plan to achieve that. This includes increasing the share of renewable energy used to 60% in all offices and manufacturing units by the next decade and 90% by 2040, before the final goal.
To ensure that it will be able to supply its operations with clean, renewable power, LG said that highly-efficient solar panels will be installed at its offices and on top of the manufacturing facilities. Additionally, the company will also take advantage of renewable energy purchase agreements and it will also acquire renewable energy certificates.
Lee Sam-soo, Chief Strategy Officer at LG Electronics, said that "through ongoing efforts and innovation, LG is well on its way to achieving its goals of converting to 100 percent renewable energy and becoming a carbon neutral business."
