As per ESG Today, Liminal uses ultrasound and machine learning to get insights on EV-grade batteries, but not only. This technology enables battery manufacturers to discover new ways they can accelerate commercial production, as well as to improve the quality of their cells, while cutting costs and employing more second-life materials.
The solution also verifies manufactured batteries for potential defects that can affect safety and/or performance, such as weld defects and foreign particles.
Robert McIntyre, managing director at LG Technology Ventures, said that "the current state of the EV market and the challenges manufacturers are having in scaling battery production demonstrates the pressing need to solve for battery quality—an area where Liminal has demonstrated success."
The first inspection line for products was implemented last year by Liminal in European EV's Gigafactory.
Andrew Hsieh, co-founder and CEO of Liminal, added: "this funding will enable us to more rapidly deploy our quality control solutions with more customers and into more production lines."
