ESG Today writes that the new goal comes as Holcim pledged to reduce its cement manufacturing emissions by 22% per ton of product by 2030. Company officials claim that its new targets are validated by the Science Based Targets initiative and they are also aligned with the world's 1.5 degree Celsius goals.

Holcim's climate-related goals are important, as cement production accounts for 8% of the world's total CO2 footprint as some 900 kg of carbon emissions are released per one ton of manufactured material.

Holcim CEO Jan Jenisch said that "we are committed to scaling up low-carbon and circular construction while making buildings more sustainable in use to build cities that work for people and the planet."
