According to Reuters, the budget is going to include actions for climate protection, hydrogen technology and for the expansion of the national electric vehicle charging station network.

The country plans to gain more independence regarding the import of gas from Russia and is taking steps to boost the infrastructure that allows liquefied natural gas imports.

And, although it contradicts Germany’s steps to reduce emissions, the country is also planning to rely more on coal extraction and coal-fired power plants.

There are significant environmental impacts associated with coal mining and use. It could require the removal of massive amounts of top soil, leading to erosion, loss of habitat and pollution. Coal mining causes acid mine drainage, which causes heavy metals to dissolve and seep into ground and surface water.

Recently, the German authorities said that the country wants to use renewable energy sources for its entire electricity needs by 2035. This is the next target in trying to help the environment for the country that aimed to abandon fossil fuels by 2040.
