According to BBC, the founder explained that, depending on how well the business is doing, this will amount to about 100 million USD per year.

The estimated revenue for 2022 of the 49 years-old company is believed to be around 1.5 billion USD.

Chouinard stated that "despite its immensity, the Earth's resources are not infinite, and it's clear we've exceeded its limits."

"Instead of extracting value from nature and transforming it into wealth, we are using the wealth Patagonia creates to protect the source", he added.

Aiming to help the planet as much as possible, the fashion company already did practices such as developing sustainable products and donating 1% of its revenue to activists.

The founder also considered selling the company or taking the company public, but he didn't want to give full control over it.

"Even public companies with good intentions are under too much pressure to create short-term gain at the expense of long-term vitality and responsibility", he explained.

Patagonia is now owned by two entities, one being the Patagonia Purpose Trust, which has a 2% share over the company and is owned by the Chouinard family, who will control business activities.

The philanthropy of the Holdfast Collective is a US-based charity "dedicated to fighting the environmental crisis", which owns the other 98% shares.

Patagonia founder mentioned that "each year the money we make after reinvesting in the business will be distributed as a dividend to help fight the crisis."
