According to CNBC, the co-founder of Microsoft talked in depth about climate change and what can be done to stop this phenomenon while answering users on Reddit.

Bill Gates said that "the pace of innovation is really picking up even though we won’t make the current timelines or avoid going over 1.5."

Experts at the UN Environment Program say the same thing, as their report released in October showcases that there aren't enough efforts around the world to limit the rate of global warming.

Gates also believes that climate change is causing social disruptions, as well, since it "slows down the progress we make on improving the human condition."

On the same note, the philanthropist says that over 10% of children located in vulnerable parts of the world die before the age of five, while 30% of those who survive don't have an adequate diet.

"I still believe we can avoid a terrible outcome", Microsoft's co-founder said, trying to be optimistic.

Gates' TerraPower is making good progress with regards to its uranium-powered nuclear reactors that are being cooled down with the help of liquid sodium.

TerraPower's first nuclear power plant will be put into service starting 2030 in the state of Wyoming.

Bill Gates said that "this can make a huge contribution to climate challenges since it will be low cost and super safe."

Generating green power is essential in the fight against climate change, since 27% of the world's total emissions are going from electricity production.

Gates also believes that plant-based foods are going to play a crucial role in stabilizing the world's climate and he points at some companies working on vegan meat alternatives, such as Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods.

At the same time, the philanthropist also financed Upside Foods, a company that takes cells from animals to create lab-grown meat products that are safer to consume and don't generate emissions.

"I think eventually these products will be very good even though their share is small today", Gates answered a user.

"The key on climate is making the clean products as cheap as the dirty products in every area of emission — planes, concrete, meat etc", he added.

The co-founder of Microsoft also believes that EVs are the solution for now when it comes to cutting on emissions while commuting or going in a vacation.
