As per ESG Today, five semi-trailer trucks are to be launched in mid-2024 for trial tests and they will be transporting cargo over routes in Germany. During the trials, these trucks will remain under the supervision of officials at Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

Andreas Gorbach, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck AG, responsible for Truck Technology, said that "with this first customer fleet, our fuel-cell trucks are now being tested in real customer operation. A win-win situation for both sides: our customers get to know fuel-cell technology in daily real-life operation and our engineering team gets to better understand customer needs and relevant use cases, taking them into account for series development."

The vehicles will be refueled at public liquid hydrogen stations, which offer a new type of refilling process for hydrogen-powered vehicles that can run on liquid hydrogen, as this is a more energy-dense and cheaper way to transport the power source.
