The construction sector is one of the most crucial to decarbonize, as every year, 40% of the world's total greenhouse gas emissions are coming from this industry. Also, manufacturing construction materials has a big footprint as well, specifically 50% of the whole building industry, as per ESG Today.

Canada-based CarbonCure is a 2012 founded company which offers a solution that lets concrete producers to use captured carbon emissions in order to make low-carbon construction materials. Concrete plants can be fitted with this technology, which lets manufacturers use the emissions they capture to produce low-emissions concrete.

Through the process, CarbonCure engineers say that the concrete's strength is also increased. As per official numbers, five million trucks worth of low-carbon concrete have been manufactured this way so far, leading to 290.000 tons of CO2 saved.

Robert Niven, Chair and CEO of CarbonCure Technologies, said that "our solutions help concrete producers deliver high quality, lower carbon concrete in an efficient, economical and non-disruptive way. With more than 750 systems sold, this latest investment will drive CarbonCure’s deployment across the global concrete industry as the private sector doubles down on sustainability in new construction."

Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund, Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund and Breakthrough Energy Ventures were among those who financed the 80 million USD round.
