As per ESG Today, Barcelona-based Submer is a startup founded in 2015 that uses immersion cooling technologies to help data center operators reduce the costs associated with cooling, as well as the water consumption, without sacrificing on the performance of the servers.
This solution is especially useful considering the advanced developments of AI, which not only requires higher energy consumption, but also put a bigger strain on the compute power available.
Experts at the International Energy Agency (IEA) say that data centers consumed 460TWh in 2022 and these numbers could double by 2026. Submer officials claim that submersion cooling can be helpful as it cuts on the power requirements, as well as the amount of water used for cooling.
Submer co-founder and CFO Pol Valls said that "with this strong backing, we are very well positioned to continue to lead the liquid immersion cooling market and meet the growing demands of hyperscale datacenters, enabling us to scale faster with our customers, while remaining focused on driving both growth and meaningful impact in our industry."
Any thoughts?
