According to Time, Schneider Electric is so far the sustainability champion this year, due to its climate neutrality target, set for 2025, but also for helping its customers reducing their negative impact on the planet by improving their energy efficiency performance. The company was also able to reduce its supply chain emissions and it established a sustainability impact program to help it track its sustainability progress.
Company CEO Peter W. Herweck said that "we've positioned the company to be an impact company."
Many of the companies that topped the charts don't offer physical products, but rather services, such as tech, consulting and banking, but there are still some that show sustainability can be achieved fast even when manufacturing goods.
US biotechnology company Illumina, fifth on the list, recently showcased its most powerful gene sequencer, while cutting packaging waste by 90% from the old model.
The fashion industry, which has continuous sustainability issues, made some progress in this regard and thus, Italian fashion brand Moncler ranked third place thanks to its use of recycled materials, reprocessing over 80% of its nylon scrap material in 2023. At the same time, the company uses 100% renewable power for its offices, stores, factories and logistics hubs.
Remo Ruffini, chairman and CEO of Moncler, said that "while we take pride in this achievement, we are aware much remains to be done."
Japan-based NEC Corp, working in the IT, Tech and Software industry, ranked second with a score of over 85 out of 100, while Spanish telecom company Telefonica ranked 9 with shy over 81 out of 100 points.
Laptops and IT products manufacturer HP was the most sustainable electronics, hardware and equipment manufacturer in its industry, ranking 20 with a score of over 78 out of 100.
Any thoughts?
