A new heat engine produces electricity more efficiently than steam turbines

Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have unveiled a new heat engine with no moving parts, which can convert heat to electricity with more than 40% efficiency, a performance better than steam turbines.
