We've previously written about what smart cities are and how they can make our daily activities easier, while ensuring a healthier future.

According to Slash Gear, Saudi Arabia is one country that plans to design a futuristic city, which is called The Line and it will span for about 170 kilometers in length.

But that's not the only fascinating part, as the city will stand at a height of 500 meters and will be about 200 meters wide based on the concepts posted on the official website.

Supporting the city will be a gigantic two-way mirror, reflecting either the Red Sea or the mountains the northern side of the country.

The Line is one of the projects supported by Saudi Arabia's officials, which also aim to develop a futuristic region in the northwest side of the country, called NEOM.

NEOM differs from The Line in the way that it will be comprised of numerous small cities and each will have its own design and purpose, such as an industrial district or a touristic district.

By contrast, The Line aims to be an all-in one, residential, commercial and touristic site.

Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman stated that "at The Line's launch last year, we committed to a civilizational revolution that puts humans first based on a radical change in urban planning."

Officials also mentioned that as much as 9 million residents will be able to live in the futuristic city and that they will be able to travel from one side to the other in 20 minutes.

What should make the city really smart is the fact that all important facilities will be accessible by foot in a five-minute walk from any point of the settlement.

For those curious to visit the futuristic site, you might have to wait some time, because the 500 billion dollars project won't be finished before at least 2030.
