As per The Next Web, the London-based startup was founded in 2020 by three college students who claim to have developed the first device in the world that is able to capture tire leftovers.

With the device sitting behind the wheel, similar to these mud-stoppers that some vehicles have, it is able to capture as much as 60% of the flying particles that are generated by friction with the help of electrostatics and air intake.

The captured rubber particles can be used to manufacture rubber products, such as shoe soles.

In November last year, the company ran a test in collaboration with logistics company Zhero and the system was able to capture particles that had a size of between 0.3 and 100 microns.

More than half of those were below 10 microns in size and they are considered by scientists to be the most dangerous for human health.

The Tyre Collective team is now looking to implement this system on fleets of vehicles used by logistics companies, before moving to buses and other class of vehicles.

Someday, they hope that the tire residue capture device will be implemented on all vehicles and they believe that it will prove itself particularly useful for EVs, as they already have the lowest footprint when being driven around.
