As per Euronews.green, the UK government is currently consulting the public with regards to the proposal and in the meantime, some supermarkets and beauty shops already phased out the polluting product with a biodegradable alternative.

Officials at Water UK analyzed 53 sewer blockages around the country and concluded that in 93% of the cases, plastic wet wipes were the reason for the disruption, which costs the country some 114 million euros to clean up.

The ban could come into force as soon as next year, should the public agree with the government's initiative.

The EU itself initiated the ban of some single-use plastic items back in 2021, such as plastic straws and polystyrene takeaway containers.

While its law doesn't mention anything about plastic wet wipes, there are some measures in place which could help mitigate the pollution they can cause. There is a label which tells consumers that the product contains plastic and it shouldn't be flushed down the toilet, as it may cause clogging.
