ESG Today writes that IBM officials say that this should allow the company to better balance the ever-growing demand of cloud computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning with demanded ESG regulations and environmental reporting.

Satinder Sethi, GM, IBM Cloud Infrastructure Services, said that "as we see businesses continue to embrace hybrid cloud to achieve operational efficiency and energy-saving benefits, we believe cloud and data center energy efficiency will continue to grow in importance."

IBM's software-based emissions tracker allows users to view reports of their CO2 footprint every month, quarter or even year. It is also able to detect any potential issues, patterns and even provide customers with solutions to reduce their impact on the environment.

"For IBM, reducing environmental impact to help create a more sustainable future is a top priority and we believe it is also something shared by many organizations. We are committed to helping clients align sustainability goals to business objectives", Sethi added.
