As per ESG Today, the company's recent climate objectives have been approved by experts at the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which is one of the key organizations focused on validating environmental plans from third-party companies.

Electrolux's previous climate targets were achieved three years ahead of time and included lowering Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 82% and Scope 3 product usage emissions by 25% before 2025, with 2015 as the year of reference.

Electrolux now aims to cut its Scope 1 and 2 emissions further by 85%, while also focusing on cutting on absolute Scope 3 emissions by 42% between 2021 and 2030. These include product use, materials and the transport of the appliances.

Electrolux Group CEO Jonas Samuelson said that "we’re focused on keeping up our momentum to drive climate action throughout our value chain."

Sweden-based Electrolux Group was one of the first 100 companies back in 2018 to have its climate targets evaluated and approved by SBTi. By 2030, Electrolux wants to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 97% compared to the year 2015.

Elena Breda, Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer at Electrolux Group, added that "the new science-based target will bring us close to zero emissions in operations by 2030, despite the challenging global economic outlook and some manufacturing processes to be addressed together with our suppliers."

"As approximately 85% of the global climate impact of an appliance is generated when it is in use, therefore by offering resource and energy efficient products is where we can have the greatest positive climate impact and our scope 3 target supports our work on this."
