As per Reuters, the survey was conducted on 1.000 executives from the automotive industry and it concluded that the number of companies who are involved in sustainability-focused actions, such as tracking their emissions and optimizing transport routes, dropped by 9-11% between 2022 and 2023.

Sustainability investments from automotive suppliers also reduced significantly, from 36.6 million USD to 30.5 million this year and one-third of the surveyed companies said that they don't have a well-thought sustainability strategy implemented.

Supply chain decisions in most cases were based on things such as quality, cost and geopolitical risks, sustainability being one of the least important factors in this case.

Included in the survey were 1.004 executives from big car brands, such as Ford and Lamborghini, companies with one billion USD in revenue and suppliers with at least 500 million.

Automotive industry representatives stated in the last few months that the supply chain situation is uncertain following the pandemic, semiconductor shortages and geopolitical issues, which could indicate why sustainability isn't the main focus at this point.

Computing platforms used on EVs these days, but also traditional cars, are some of the hardest components to obtain, they added, as 50% of the respondents agreed on this.
